Exciting times here at Little Garden of Eat'n!
To better manage the 2016 kidding season and provide the best possible preparation for the does, I have acquired an ultra sound unit so all pregnancies will be verified via ultra sound this year. Knowing how many kids are due at the onset of pregnancy means being able to better assist buyers with their reservations. It also means being ready to assist with multiple births or knowing a single is coming which are often larger and harder to pass than twins.
Also happening soon is the addition of some new exciting bloodlines. Flying J Farm Sand Storm (MDGA AMN05105) will be joining the herd in the spring to provide some new genetics and will be bred to Apollo's daughters, HHF LGE EH Flamingo Flower (MDGA AMN04649) and HHF LGE EH Fragrant Freesia (MDGA raf), infusing some additional proven Green Gables genetics.
In another week, the newest acquisition will be joining the herd, Rosasharn Moose Tracks *B, *S, who will be used to start a new line of Mini Nubians. He will be bred in 2016 to select does who have strong proven milk lines and characteristics desirable in both Nubians and Mini-Nubians. These new lines will be crossed with current proven producers here to continually work toward the perfect mid-sized dairy goat.
Another important step being taken to maximize the genetic makeup of the HHF LGE line, will be Artificial Insemination. I will be attending a clinic to get a better feel for this, and have already begun gathering data that will be used in the future. Being able to bring outside genetics in, occasionally, enables existing proven bucks to be retained with an infusion of new genetics to breed to. Also, being able to collect and freeze current bucks, offers an "insurance policy" in the event of the loss of a proven buck. Having the ability to preserve genes, as well as share, is an important step in the future.
Stay tuned for a few more updates on the way!
